How to be a cool yet disciplined Parent

Everybody knows how to raise children, except the people who have them. - P.J. O'Rourke

Being a parent is difficult we all know that but being a cool parent is far more difficult. Ever since in our childhood every one of us at some point in time wants our parents to be cool and understanding as our's friends parent. Didn't you? and thought that when I will become a parent I will be a cool parent, I will always take care of my kid's needs, buy them all the toys they want, take them for outing every weekend etc. etc.

But........ Does it really happen? Ever heard your child saying my friend's mom or dad listens to them, take them for an outing, her parents are too good. It comes to all of us now and then. So, That's the point...Am I like the parent I want to be?  Am I meeting the expectations of my kids?

Every One of us wants to be a star or an idol for our kids. But it's not really happening or you can't be perfect or meet their expectations every time. But by following some parenting tips we can be a cool, good, and somewhat nearly become a perfect parent. How ?... Let's see.....

What is cool parenting?

I've heard many people talk on this 'cool parenting' idea. It's interesting what makes a cool parent in some minds and what society has taught us about being cool. And it's more interesting to know what really makes a cool mom or a cool dad.

Every one has its own definition on this topic. It's not always good sometimes. There are some misconceptions also about being a cool parent. I also heard someone saying "No, I don't want to be a cool parent. These types of parents are always careless and always ends up having a bad attitude kid".
Everybody knows how to raise children, except the people who have them. - P.J. O'Rourke

So, What's actually is a cool parent look likes? As per my thought "A cool parent is one that believes in his child, Always there for them but let them do the things their way, sets boundaries, but allows their children to be themselves, appreciate them, respect their feelings and show them a true path of success and being a good human being in life and who accept them for who they are."

I know now You are thinking, Every statement is contradictory. But it's true. A cool parent is one that changes the definition of being a cool parent with the time and situation according to their kid's needs.

1. Be Friend With Your Kid

The first step of being a cool parent is to be friends with them. Let them know that they can share anything, any type of problem, situation (that they can share with their friends) with you. As you do so soon they will start to open up about any problem going on in their life. But here comes the second tip.

2. Listen to them

Always Listen carefully to your child what they are saying either he is a toddler or a teenager. Don't interrupt them in between, don't give your judgment on any topic but give them suggestions starts with if I were at your place or if I were you or can tell them how you also face such things in your childhood. Trust me half their problems are solved when you listen to them carefully.

3. Involve In their Activities

Spend some time with them either it will be only half an hour or at sleep time whatever fits you. But ask them about how was their day every single day. It is necessary to be involved in their life. ask your toddler also. This will keeps you updated about their interests and their life. You can play with them, get to know their friends or you can also involve them in your day to day activity, whatever you feel spending time with them is the point. Choose at least a day for fun activities with them.

4. Be Calm

whatever be the situation keep your temper normal don't shout or scold them. If you feel like losing temper get off the place for a while and then return back with a calm mind and let them know the solution. you can only understand a child with a calm mind. Scolding a child always result in a rude behavior in child and they started getting away from you or show tantrums.

5. Let them solve their problem

Dealing with problems is a part of growing up. A child is unprepared for the real world if a parent clears all the path for them. It's important to be alongside them but only as a support.

6. Keep an eye on everything

As we are in a tech world, every parent is more worried about their child's security. I will not recommend you to keep your child away from tech gadgets but keep an eye on everything. The children nowadays are smarter but you are their parents, you should be smarter than them. keep an eye on their social accounts, sites they visits etc. but in a smarter way. many apps are out there in the market. Be one step ahead of your child.

7. Make rules

As a parent you should be strict at some points I agree, but having rules and following them also includes you. Make rules for the family but make everybody agrees to them. Some of them can be

a) Return home at the time, or at least make a call home if you are going to be late and for what reason. this applies to you also as a parent.

b) No mobile time in the home or at least at the dinner table. If you have to attend a business call, attend in front of them. It will also make them attend their calls in front of you and you can be sure that they are not talking to anybody unknown to you.
Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them. - James Baldwin
These are my ways, of being a cool parent who listens to their child, support them but at the same time keep them safe and disciplined.
Tell me your ways of being a cool parent as we as a parent will keep learning new ways to deal with our tech era kids.

Smartphone Addiction in kids

Sunday morning ….most awaited morning in the whole week, a lazy day and of course, a family fun day. I came up with a new topic idea this Sunday morning “ Smartphone Addiction.

All of us in 20's century are smartphone-addicted either its kids, teens, young or adult. In this Modern Era we can’t imagine our lives without a mobile. From morning to night we all spend hours and hours on mobile without even realizing that.

As soon as we open our eyes our day starts in search for our mobile and then next step is to check WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter account and other messages and then replying for those messages and after this routine our day starts off. Starting the day with a cup of coffee or tea are now on back seat nowadays. Then jogging, getting fresh, breakfast, while driving to the office, in meetings, in lunch, on way back home and after getting home at the dinner table and even while sleeping. It's our only all day friend. One and only important friend these days.

Don’t get surprised to see a 2 years old handling mobile device independently. It is more often nowadays. It’s our modern era where a kid doesn’t learn how to take its first step firstly but knows how to unlock a phone.

I know you will say it’s a need of living nowadays all these devices make us more powerful and more independent. Yes, you are right on that no doubt.
All these devices are also now used by schools to keep kids updated, introduce them to technology and it’s an interesting way of learning ..all these statements are true.

But with every great technology there comes a drawback. And some of the big drawbacks of this technology is its effect on behavior, on eyes, on socialization, and on our relationships.

Imagine your home gathering, what you see nowadays mobile in all hands. The whole family in one place but still not there.
At least we have something to tell our kids about the games we play outside, about our friends, about our experiences as a kid, our fun stories but what they have... to tell to their kids ? may be mobile games...

SMARTPHONE  USE MAKES PARENTS INATTENTIVE

Every parent worries about their kid's behavior these days. But no doubt on this.......According to recent studies these are drawback gifts of these devices. And above of all its only parents that are responsible for this problem in kids. Wonder how?............. let's see

Ask only one question to you

How much time you are spending on your phone?

Have an app that tells the mobile phone usage it will tell you the truth.

It's only our fault. We are the reason kids are glued to their devices. As kids learn to watch us.

When a crying child comes to you, or I can say disturbs you, Ask for your attention. What we do?

Instead of paying attention to them, to their issues we handover them the mobile with a cartoon video. So, ultimately we are over the situation but giving kids a habit of the device.

Ultimately we are the villains.

So, Open your eyes be a hero, not villains.

Try some Healthy smartphone habits:

Yup! It is possible to let your kids enjoy time on mobile devices without affecting their behavior problem. And for that all you need to do is just follow some simple rules:
 1. Set Rules.Set rules for all and stick to them. No mobile on the dining table, doing homework before using mobile. And when the whole family is in one place no mobile rule will be the best option.

2. Set Limits. Set the usage limit on mobile devices for all members at home. There are lot many apps to help you with this.

3.Set Warning. kids get so frustrated when they have to stop a game in the middle of a level. give them a 5-minute warning before they have to stop. Enough time to get to the end of a level. When that time is over, they know they have to turn it off. And if they don’t, they get 10 minutes deducted from their next allocated session.

4.Family Time. Start your day with some physical exercise with kids and then have a breakfast with them. Have a chitchat with them about their school about their friends. Go for skating, walking, swimming, or a place where there are a lot of physical activity for kids to do. Have fun being active together and your kids will get into healthy habits. Then you won’t worry about them chilling out for a bit on a mobile device.

5. Free Time If They have free time from their routine try involving them with some home stuff with you it will build a habit of doing their work themselves and helping others. Do painting with them or even reading a story for them will be a fine step.

It will help you improve your bond with them, overcoming your mobile addiction and slowly you see a lot of improvement in their behavior. Early you start, early you will see the change.

Try limiting your mobile usage and give more time to your kid it’s the only solution to this problem.

How To Make Kids Enjoy Reading

Introduction to Books

How to introduce kids to reading?  How to inculcate book reading in kids? these questions are always in parents mind.
As An Adult we all know the importance of books in our life and wants our kids to be book friendly also, as in this competitive world we all wants our kids to be good in studies also.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO INTRODUCE BOOKS AS A FUN THING ?

The answer is yes, we all know how as a child most of us hates books and don't want to study until there is a test or we are forced to do so but.....
now situation is different as a parent we also want our kids to devote their time in studying more.
now there is a simple way of doing it.  Don't look like this "I really mean it".

Just start their reading journey with their favorite character.............

Nowadays , many cartoon books are available in the market with reading levels start with level 1 . Buy their favorite character book and gift them as their gift of this festive season believe me their first reaction is what you want to see .
begin with accompanying them and read the book for them the first time. later on help them to read it, it needs sometimes from you but believe me its worth it.

Once they start enjoying the stories in your we time with them try to introduce activities books based on cartoon series books. It will keep them engage and they will also enjoy doing activities.

try letting them read alone starting with simple 3 letter words books. these books also have sight words column which help them to build their vocabulary . level starts from PRE-K .

Develop their reading skills starting with these books and after that you will see they will also enjoy reading stories and course books also. Its will be a  fun way for both of you to be attached at story time and in this way fathers even can also create a new bond with kids as fathers get less time with kids after a full working day at office, it will become a most loved time for your kids.

Give It A Try Trust Me It Will Work.

and Please let me know your views also.

Just click below on books and buy some now ................
